Helping Danish market leader Danfoss define a scalable, universal yet iconic design language for their mechanical radiator thermostat range that exemplifies Danfoss' precision technology and makes it accessible to millions of homes worldwide.
The Solution
FLUID Design partnered with Danfoss to create a product range that stands as a beacon of their brand values while meeting the diverse needs of homes worldwide. This market-defining project aimed to deliver an iconic, timeless and universally applicable design that blends approachability, technological precision, scalability and ease of use in order to become a true cornerstone of the Danfoss product portfolio.
Redefining Legacy
Danfoss invented the radiator thermostat more than 80 years ago and today, more than 40 million homes are heated with this technology. Our design approach builds directly on these decades of experience and acts as a logical evolution of the Danfoss heritage.
Insights-driven design
By teaming up with hundreds of installers as being the key purchase decision makers we have been able to directly derive pain points and opportunities from first hand experiences. Our design suggestions directly answered Danfloss’ business need of providing scalable solutions that cancel out technical impracticalities international installers face every day. End users value the simplicity and adaptabiliy of a design language that not only answers their need for intuitive and approachable products but also blends seamlessly into their living space.
Quality across the range
Our research provided valuable insights into installation modalities, into aesthetic preferences in different regions and markets, and how consumers differentiate between product value categories from entry level to premium. As a final result, we were able to propose a tiering strategy that creates logic and comprehensibility across the entire thermostat portfolio while being iconic, recognisable and valuable across the price spectrum.

With our design language, the Danfoss logo stands proudly in homes around the world and continues to elevate Danfoss as a leading authority on current and future generations of heating products.
